What's this site about?

Phoning abroad is expensive, especially to mobile phones.

This site searches the Internet for the cheapest prices available for calling from the UK to landline or mobile phones anywhere in the world. We update our database every day so rates are always up to date.

Our aim is to consolidate and compare the destinations and rates of all UK based telecoms providers that offer cheap ways of making UK and international phone calls.

There are a large number of telecoms companies on the Internet offering cheap calls (some of them aren't so cheap) and it's difficult to keep track of all the providers and all the prices all of the time.

Telecoms providers are often changing their access numbers and charges, so what was cheapest yesterday isn't necessarily so today. If a provider publishes a new destination or changes it's rates, we aim to have that information on this website within hours of it being published, so you can be sure you're always seeing the latest details.

We examine the prices of about 70 telecoms providers every day to bring you the most comprehensive and up-to-date listings available anywhere on the Internet. We search over 26,000 rates to give you the best possible price for phoning your chosen destination.

We process the information so that rates can be sensibly compared. Different providers will spell things differently and use different formats and layouts. We normalise all that so comparisons can be done accurately. We also eliminate unnecessary duplication so our listings are clean and concise.

The savings provided by some of these companies is staggering, sometimes 99 per cent cheaper! A call that may cost £5 with one of the big operators like BT or NTL can cost as little as 5p with one of the companies we list here on the site. Finding these gems can be difficult though, but we make it easy. Just choose the destination you want to call and whether it's a landline or mobile. We'll do all the searching and sorting for you.

You can bookmark any of our results pages so it's really easy to get the latest numbers and rates on offer. When you return to the bookmarked page we will run a new search giving you the latest results every time.

Reporting of rates

Occasionally a provider may list a telephone number with an incorrect rate. All telephone numbers issued in the UK have a designated rate or rate range that applies. The rates charged by the telecoms service providers listed on this site are directly linked to the telephone numbers they quote for that service. This telephone number to rate relationship is regulated by Ofcom. When we see a discrepency in this relationship, we use the correct rate in our comparisons that corresponds to the Ofcom published rate. We show the correct (Ofcom) rate in our listings too. This avoids the possibility of users of this website being misled into using a connection number that we know is priced incorrectly.

As an example, we found a number of instances where a telecoms provider was quoting a connection number with a price of 2 pence per minute. The actual price of that connection number was 20 pence per minute and that is the price we quote on this site. As a consequence that provider's numbers don't show up on our site as the cheapest, thus saving the unwary from an expensive mistake.

Removal of redundant and duplicated information

Telecoms service providers publish their data in a huge number of differing formats and layouts often repeating what is effectively the same information over and over. We process this information into the most consise form without losing any relevant details.

For example, a provider may publish six rates for calling particular cities in a country and another rate for calling all other cities. Often all these rates and numbers are identical so we combine them all into one entry for that provider for that country. This reduces clutter, makes it easier to find things and does not alter the underlying information.

Incorrect spellings

On this website, we use the country names defined by ISO 3166. Some telecoms providers use slightly different spellings or formats of these destination names. We normalise all these variations and wrongly spelled names to the correct spelling so all our details can be sensibly compared and users of our site can easily locate destinations.
